TRANSFERS ink and pastel

This week has been one very Inspirational week!

Today in the studio I have been getting close to the "Transfer."
I am using black etching ink, and pastels- with applied pressure on the opposite side.
I love the texture and the simplicity of the sloppy process.

In it all, I am trying to FIND ME A VOICE with drawing, value, and authenticity in my work. The more I work, the more I want to see a difference in not only myself but from others as well. Even though this body of work can be completely fine art, highly referenced horses and riders, I feel the stacks of paper have become a signature to me and they way I think.

My influences latley have been Fuchs, English, Pratt, Storey, and Vallejo.
A special thanks to George P, Francis V, and Dustin D. - enjoyed the visit!

All of these are done with etching Ink and with either a pencil, marker, or pastel applying pressure on the otherside of the paper. They are a growning body of minor works for my Polo show in Dec. All of these are on white paper 14 x 17, drawn under or around 10 min. I also plan on going back in with either arcylic or oil to carve into the obvious fat parts, or establish another color. What do you think?

I hope you enjoy the work.

Carbon foot print

I just set up a carbonmade account. This will be a temporary site in between setting up and actual website.
Does anyone have any tips to customizing it or making it more personal?!

Thanks for looking.

Studio Shot

I have been working on polo pastels and paintings of airports-aka living Diebenkorn paintings. Seeing Mark work with the PASTELS and GAMSOL made the process look so simple and easy. After almost atleast twenty pastel pictures, I have come to the conclusion that its impossible! But I am determined to make one that I like and stand behind.

Until then, here is the wall of shame in my studio.

My influences at this time include the lovely nudes by Brent W., Mark's Indians and thoughts, all my brother's ambitions, and George Inness. I am excited tonight.

Thanks for looking.

Blind Contour of Mark English and Polo

Hello,
I have been doing lots of Blind Contour Drawing- training the hand and eye to act as one without looking at the paper. These two are from this mornings breakfast with Mark. I have also done about 40 pastel sketches of polo hores and riders, this is part of a commision as well for the Sarasota Polo Club. I'm going to scan all the peices and have them on her shortly- as well as the rest of the blind contours-
thanks for viewing and come back shorty for more updates

"Big" Exhibition 2009

I just found this footage of my two man painting show with Justin Runfola, held at the Ringling College in January. This was an extremely successful show- it was packed all night- the band was kickin- and we sold to paintings. Thanks for coming out to this event- it was a blast to work on.

Second Round

Happy Fourth everyone! Let not forget the need to keep freedom.

I recieved a call a week or so ago about a gallery in Saratoga Springs, New York asking me if they could represent my polo work. This is great, I'm really glad the word got out. So I have been busy thinking about polo some more and preparing surfaces to paint on. The images below are some of the paintings in progress- just the first, initial lay in of the composition.
-WHAT DO YOU THINK? - I WOULD LOVE CRITIQUES!

For this next group of paintings, I'm going to try and really push different aspects about the sport. Either the compositions-color-drawing well-drawing bad if it calls for it- My focus is to continue to learn about painting-and getting somewhere in the process. Also, I uploaded a landscape in process as well. I'm going to have a landscape show sometime this year-more on that later.

I also took a photo of all the recent THANK YOU letters that I have made for various clients and friends. And I have also been reading about George Bellows for the 100th time- hes awesome.

I hope you enjoy the post- thanks for reading.
