FIGURE DOT COM

All these figure represent different thought, teachings, paint applications as well as influences. I have been painting the figure all year now and right now I am most interested in the abstract quality in them. I think about the paint first and then carve the figure out of shapes second. A friend of mine asked me why I painted so fast? I feel that in order to paint and judge color, you must first have things to judge. Make mistakes and slap paint down, for the first hour, start out with an abstract painting like Dekooning. Don't use it as an excuse to cover up the bad drawing though. Just get messy and produce work. Drawing will come in time. Anyway, before I even attempt to paint the face, I feel that the painting as a whole must work all together. Colors and interest. Paint what you want to paint, not whats in front of you. Paint more the gesture of the figure. Paint from life as much as you can. Stop when you want to stop, not just when its the end of class. I wish i could pull back the layers of paint on all these paintings and maintain the 20 min blockends, in my opinion they are way more succsessful. My favorite is the little 10 x 10 inch one at the bottom. I want to persure that kind of image at least with the figure. thanks for reading and enjoy...

the painting of the main in the blue towel ended up skewed for some reason.
