SHUTTER event in Kansas City!

Jane and I recently performed live figure drawing at the Hemingway Building in the KC's vibrant Crossroads district. We also showed our paintings and drawings, it was a huge turn out. Jason Manley, of CA.ORG, stopped by as well to help the success of the show, as well as the TAD and Illustration Academy students. Hope everyone had a blast, here are some shots of the event.

First Sunday in May Dr. Sketchy's

I have been using charcoal and nupastel in my drawings lately so I thought I would spice things up by introducing ink to my compositions. I am really happy with the process and the final image, always more to get better at but I don't let it get to me, I just move on to the next piece of paper.

Blocking in the shadow and dark shapes with heavy ink from a brush, I start to map out my composition as a whole, then as fast as I possible can I lay down some basic local color pastels on the legs, arms, stockings, and so forth. The great thing about Dr. Sketchy's is that they always surprise you as to what the models are going to wear and the performances at the end are always so professional. A real talented bunch of guys and gals here in KC. Thanks again Rachel for hosting it.

hope you enjoy the drawings, thanks for lurking.

      Sketchbook

      Hello everyone,

thanks for all the kind emails over the week, I hope I gave some good insight about my work and yours. Here are some recent sketchbook pages from the moleskine. The color is some oil pastel, which has a gritty texture and flat color, which I like. The drawings themselves are influenced but are not entirely credited by blind contours and shapes. I hope you enjoy them.

ARTOPIA II, FIRST FRIDAY, DR. SKETCHY'S

Jane and I performed a live figure drawing session in the heart of the Kansas City Arts district on First Friday. It was awesome! We had our stage, lights, drawing pads, models, a fire-breather, and live music. The crowd was epic, thanks so much for your support! We also drew at one of the most anticipated parties of Kansas City, Artopia, which is sponsored by the Pitch Magazine. What a fun time we had! We had the pleasure of drawing a lovely model with awesome body paint. Great poses. A huge thanks to Jason at the Pitch, we literally could not have done this without you. We also saw Voler Thieves of Flight aerealists, a great group of creative dancers that use fabrics to fly through the sky. Last but not least, Dr. Sketchy's! I really enjoy drawing with this great group of people and awesome models, a big thanks to Miss Lucky Deluxe!

      Featured on Electric Playground!

The Alice in Wonderland exhibition at the Gallerynucleus was feature in an episode on Electric Playground. There is some Final Fantasy in there but halfway through  there is a huge time slot of Nucleus goodness. My painting of the tea party is scattered throughout the movie, you can see it behind Wade, the gallery owner.
